Podcast Website Statistics 2026
We classified the website address in 4,513,180 podcast RSS feeds from the Podcast Index. Of 423,824 active podcasts (a new episode in the 90 days to 31 October 2026), 165,312 (39.0%) list a website on their own domain in their RSS feed. 228,847 (54.0%) link only to a page on a podcast hosting platform, and 12,090 (2.9%) list no usable website.
Key findings
Of the 258,512 active podcasts that do not list their own domain, 88.5% link to a hosting-platform page, 4.7% list no usable website, 4.2% link to social media or a link page such as Linktree, 1.7% link to a subdomain of a website builder, 0.8% link to a listening-app or directory page, and 0.1% link to a page on a general site such as a shared document or an online store.
Link to this findingPodcasts with the highest Podcast Index popularity score are more likely to have their own website than other podcasts: 49.5% of the 90,720 active shows with a score of 9 (the highest score; 21.4% of active shows) list their own domain, against 36.1% of the other 333,104 active shows.
Link to this findingPodcasts with their own website are more often still publishing: of the shows whose oldest episode in the feed is from 2024, 24.4% of the 75,740 that list their own domain had a new episode in the 90 days to 31 October 2026, against 13.1% of the 195,992 that link only to a hosting-platform page. This is a correlation, not proof of cause: the website is measured today, not when the show started.
Link to this findingAmong the 34 hosting services with at least 1,000 active shows in the index, the share of shows whose feed lists their own domain is highest at 96.5% (Subsplash) and lowest between 0.0% and 1.2% for 7 services (Firstory, iVoox, PodOmatic, RedCircle, stand.fm, Xiaoyuzhou and Ximalaya).
Link to this findingNews and Technology podcasts are the most likely to list their own website (51.6% and 51.9%); Fiction podcasts are the least likely (16.4% of 7,295 active shows).

How we counted
- Source: the Podcast Index public feeds database (podcastindex_feeds.db), file dated 31 October 2026, 4,749,199 feeds read. The Podcast Index is an open catalogue of podcast feeds; its database is MIT-licensed and offered free for any use.
- Counted: feeds with at least one episode. Left out: 0 marked dead, 4,564 marked as a duplicate of another feed, 231,455 with no episodes, 0 without a feed address, and 0 whose newest episode is dated more than a day after the file date.
- Active: the newest episode is dated in the 90 days up to the file date.
- Website: the link element of the feed, the show's website address. The podcaster sets it, or the hosting platform fills it in. We do not visit the address, so a listed website may no longer load.
- Classes: a hosting-platform page is an address on the domain of a podcast hosting platform (for example a podbean.com subdomain or buzzsprout.com/…), not always the platform that hosts that feed; a listening-app or directory page is Apple Podcasts, Spotify and similar; a website-builder subdomain is an address such as name.wixsite.com; a link page is a social profile or a page such as Linktree; a page on a general site is, for example, a shared document or a store page. A link to a page of the company that hosts the feed counts as a hosting-platform page (for example a Substack feed that links to name.substack.com). A builder or host site on the podcaster's own domain counts as an own domain. The full domain lists are in scripts/research/podcast_websites.py in the OnPodium repository (rules version 2026-11-07.2).
- Own domain is every web address on none of these lists. We reviewed the domains that many such links share, but a rare platform or general site can remain, so the own-domain share is an upper bound.
- Review: we looked at the domains that many own-domain links share. Hosting platforms among them (for example iVoox, Riverside and Firstory) count as hosting-platform pages, general sites (for example Google Docs or Amazon) as pages on a general site; broadcasters and podcast networks (for example Radio France or Audacy) stay own domains.
- Hosting service: taken from the feed address (for example feeds.buzzsprout.com is Buzzsprout).
- Category and language: the feed's first category and its language code, as the podcaster set them.
- Popularity: the Podcast Index's own popularity score (0 to 9 for almost every feed; the index does not publish how it is computed). The top band is the highest scores that together cover at least 1% of active shows; when one score holds many shows, the band is larger (the page gives its share).
- Launch year: the year of the oldest episode still in the feed. A feed that keeps only its latest episodes looks newer than the show is, so the launch-year groups are not exact.
- Thresholds: a table row or a compared group needs at least 1,000 shows. Two shares less than 2.0 percentage points apart are called about the same, and groups that close to the highest or the lowest are named together.
- Rounding: each percentage is rounded half up to one decimal on its own, so a row can add up to 99.9% or 100.1%.
- Refresh: monthly, from the newest database file. The date above is the date of the data, not of the page build.
